Sr Optical Design Engineer
Be part of a transformative journey, make a direct impact in healthcare technology, and help shape the future of early detection in diabetic retinopathy.
As a Senior Optical Designer at Oivi, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of high-performance optical systems for our advanced fundus cameras and medical products having optics as key elements. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and clinicians to create optical solutions that deliver exceptional image quality, precision, and reliability. Your expertise will contribute to the success of our products in enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Optical System Design: Design and optimization of optical systems for fundus cameras, including lens systems, mirrors, filters, and illumination sources.
- Lens Design: Utilize advanced optical design software (e.g., Zemax) to design and analyze complex lens systems, ensuring high-resolution imaging and minimal aberrations.
- Performance Analysis: Conduct rigorous optical performance analysis, simulations, and testing to meet specific image quality and resolution requirements.
- Lens Coating: Collaborate with coatings engineers to develop custom coatings for lenses and optical components to enhance light transmission and reduce reflections.
- Prototyping: Oversee the fabrication and testing of optical prototypes, evaluating and iterating designs to optimize performance.
- Alignment and Calibration: Develop alignment and calibration procedures to ensure the precise alignment of optical components during assembly as well as with software alignment implementation team. You will be responsible for coming up with optical bench and experiments to guide the software development for the best alignment to capture consistent best images.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and quality assurance professionals, to integrate optical systems seamlessly into the fundus camera platform. Collaborate with Optics CM to get the best optics modules as per Oivi design.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that optical designs and components meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for medical devices.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of optical designs, specifications, and testing procedures in compliance with company protocols.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on emerging optical technologies and industry trends, integrating new techniques and materials to enhance product performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in optical design, preferably in the medical device or imaging industry.
- Proficiency in optical design software (e.g., Zemax) and optical modeling tools.
- Strong knowledge of optical components, coatings, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with relevant optical and imaging standards and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present and explain complex optical concepts to non-experts.
- Preferable - but not a demand: practical testing specifically within illumination optics
